Flexible Instruction Days (FID)
Since the 2020–2021 school year, the East Allegheny School District has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to implement Flexible Instruction Days (FIDs). These days allow for remote learning when schools must close due to inclement weather or emergency situations.
How Families Will Be Notified
You will be notified of a Flexible Instruction Day the same way you are notified of school delays or closures:
-
Automated phone call, email, and/or text through the District’s mass notification system
-
Updates on the District website
-
Announcements on social media and local news stations
Student Expectations on FID Days
-
All students (K–12) will follow their regular schedule and complete assignments through Google Classroom using district-issued Chromebooks.
-
Assignments will include both core subjects and special area classes (e.g., art, music, physical education).
-
If a Flexible Instruction Day is anticipated, students may be instructed to take their Chromebooks home the day prior.
No Internet or Power?
-
In case of widespread power outages or lack of internet access:
-
Students may use pre-distributed FID folders with printed assignments.
-
If folders are not available, teachers will send home printed copies of the missed assignments on the next school day.
-
Students will have five (5) school days to complete and return these assignments.
-
Teacher Support
Teachers will be available throughout the school day to support students via:
-
Google Classroom
-
District email
If you have any questions about FIDs or your child’s ability to participate, please contact your child’s school directly.
