ENTEROVIRUS D68 (EV-D68)
Enteroviruses are common viruses that mostly affect infants, children, and teens, often causing mild cold-like symptoms, rashes, or fever—but in some cases, they can lead to more serious illnesses. One type, Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68), can cause severe respiratory issues, especially in children with asthma.
While there’s no specific treatment or vaccine, families can help protect their children by encouraging frequent handwashing, avoiding close contact with sick individuals, and disinfecting shared surfaces. If your child develops breathing problems or other concerning symptoms, contact your healthcare provider right away.
