English as a Second Language (ESL) Services
Language Instruction Educational Programs (LIEPs) are designed to help students whose native or first language is not English gain proficiency in English and succeed academically. Without targeted support in social and academic English, these students may not have equal access to the full range of educational opportunities available to their peers.
The East Allegheny School District provides English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction through the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. ESL is part of the district’s core curriculum and supports learners in developing the language skills needed to succeed in all subject areas.
Eligibility is determined through a language screening process. Students who qualify receive targeted instruction and are assessed annually to track progress and determine continued need for services.
Families are also encouraged to participate in our Families for Families program—a peer mentoring network led by East Allegheny family members who support others navigating similar experiences. An ESL family mentor is available upon request.
For more information, please contact the district’s ESL coordinator.
