April School Board Recap
The East Allegheny School District Board of Education held its monthly meeting on April 10th. A recording of the meeting is available for viewing.
Grow Pittsburgh Collaboration
EA and the Pittsburgh Allegheny County School (PACS) Districts are partnering with Grow Pittsburgh to establish a school garden program at Logan Elementary. This initiative will provide both students and teachers from early childhood through graduation with hands-on experiences in outdoor classrooms and therapeutic garden spaces. The program focuses on food sovereignty and will support curriculum development around growing, cooking, and eating fresh food. Grow Pittsburgh will fully fund the project, at no cost to the district.
Student Reports
Students from both the Junior/Senior High School and Logan Elementary shared updates on district events and student achievements.
K-12 Comprehensive Plan Presentation
Presented by R.J. Long and Joseph DiLucente, this plan outlines the strategy for the district. The Junior/Senior High School, which has been on the Additional Targeted Support Improvement (ATSI) Plan since 2018, will transition to the Comprehensive School Improvement (CSI) Plan for 2025, a four-year designation (2025-2029). Failure to meet goals could result in a state takeover.
The district’s plan extends the CSI focus on only grades 7-12 to grades K-12, with clear goals for improvement over the next three years (2025-2028). Highlights include:
-
K-12 Vertical Alignment: By the end of the 2027-2028 school year, 80% of the core curriculum and assessments in grades K-12 will meet at least 80% of state standards, based on a district-wide audit.
-
By the end of the 2027-2028 school year, 70% of K-12 students will show growth in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math, as measured by classroom assessments and standardized tests such as Acadience, MAP, and CDT.
-
K-12 teams will be established to track progress, consisting of parents, department heads, teachers, and district leadership. These teams will ensure accountability and maintain a focus on the goals. Regular meetings will assess progress across three primary groups: community impact, data-driven refinement, and goal implementation. Success will be tracked using a variety of assessment tools, monitored bi-weekly.
