JANUARY BOARD RECAP

 

NORTH VERSAILLES; January 15, 2025 — The East Allegheny School Board of Directors met Monday evening for its monthly meeting.

The Board honored East Allegheny’s Robotics team (grades 7-12), which recently won the VEX Western Pa. State Qualifier Tournament. Team members demonstrated the robots they built for the Board and attendees. The squad will compete in the state tournament on March 3 at Clarion University. 

 

Students gave reports from each of the district’s schools: Matthew Montedoro (Logan Elementary), Anna Dilembo (Gr. 7-8) and high school students Keila Austin and London Jones. 

January is School Director Recognition Month and EA’s Board had an appreciation catered dinner prior to the meeting and also received a gift from Logan Elementary students. 

In other business, the Board:

- Approved the high school administration’s proposed change from the current seven-period schedule to a block schedule for the 2025-26 school year;

- Hired Shataya Taylor as the district’s Student and Family Engagement Specialist;

- Hired Jessica Aul as the new Art teacher at Logan Elementary; 

- Accepted the resignation of Assistant Superintendent Dr. Alexander Novickoff;

- Accepted the resignation of high school secretary Kristen Keleschenyi and promoted Tina Nichols, from her position as a district paraprofessional to the high school data secretary.

In his monthly report, Superintendent Joe DiLucente said the district will be starting the process of selling unused property and dwellings it owns within the district. DiLucente also offered his condolences on behalf of the district for EAHS student Carmello Mosley, who recently died after a tragic incident in Pittsburgh. 

The next regular monthly Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 10.
