December School Board Recap
NORTH VERSAILLES — District leadership remained stable at the December School Board Reorganization Meeting, as John Savinda was once again voted as Board President and Tisha Thomas was selected as Vice President. Both votes were unanimous.
In addition, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was named the official newspaper of circulation, and the law firm of Andrews & Price LLC was named district solicitor.
During the regular Board meeting that followed, the Board:
- Heard from Darren Steele of Musco Field Sales regarding potentially replacing the field lighting at Churchman Stadium. Superintendent of Schools Joe DiLucente informed Board members of power outages that have taken place during EA athletic events recently, and also noted rising costs due to power surges. He also noted that the track is in need of replacement, as well, and that it makes more sense to replace the lighting first so that a potential new track would not be damaged by construction of new lighting.
- Subsequently, the Board approved a proposal from Musco Sport Lighting for the purchase and installation of Musco’s light structure system/stadium lights for an amount not to exceed $550,000, as per this proposal.
- Heard from Fred Kline of Allegheny Transportation Services and Bob Koban of Beacon Mobility. Beacon Mobility is set to acquire Allegheny Transportation Services, which presently serves the district.
- Approved the Act 1 Budget Resolution for the 2025-26 school year. The resolution may be found here.
- Approved Resolution 1203-2024B, declaring the Board’s intent to receive and use available funding from the 2024-2025 Tax Equity Supplement pursuant to Act 55 of 2025 and Section 2599.6 of the Pennsylvania School Code. That resolution may be found here.
- Approved the Grades 7-12 Master Schedule Plan, as submitted by high school principal Mr. R.J. Long. The scheduling plan will take place during the 2025-26 school year. Mr. Long’s presentation regarding the plan may be found here.
- Approved a request for the Robotics Team to participate in the SeaPearch competition at Gateway High School on March 22, 2025.
- Approved a request for the orchestra (grades 7-12) to perform at the PA State Capitol Building in Harrisburg on March 13, 2025, for the Music in Our Schools Month celebration.
- Also approved a request for the elementary school orchestra to visit Heinz Hall on March 12, 2025, for a performance of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
