September School Board Recap

NORTH VERSAILLES — The East Allegheny School Board of Directors met for its regular monthly meeting Monday night. Agendas and minutes from board meetings may be found at https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/eall/Board.nsf/Public.

Board members on Monday heard from several administrators, as well as student representatives from Logan Elementary and the Junior-Senior High School. Logan Elementary Principal Ms. Cara McKenna highlighted the school’s recent PBIS kickoff, as well as the upcoming Halloween Trunk and Treat set for Oct. 24. Senior High School Principal R.J. Long discussed recent adjustments to the school dress code, and also noted that the school is seeking to expand pre-apprenticeship opportunities for students, among other updates.

Superintendent of Schools Joe DiLucente highlighted middle school soccer coach Chris Goyke, who recently was voted by Positive Athlete to be the most positive coach in Western Pennsylvania. DiLucente also noted that water testing will take place at Logan Elementary School on Monday.

In other business:

  • DiLucente reiterated some safety guidelines at East Allegheny athletic events. Namely, no bags are permitted inside the stadium or gymnasium, and students in grades K-8 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • The Board approved the agreement between the school district and Allegheny Health Network for use of the Chill Mobile, a school-based mental health program that travels to schools throughout Pennsylvania. The Chill Mobile teaches students evidence-based coping skills that help them regulate emotions and how to deal with high-stress situations. The Chill Mobile visits schools three times per year for a week at a time. Additionally, teachers are provided with professional development sessions through the program.
  • The Board also approved an agreement with XYCOM for the purchase and installation of interaction learning reality spaces at Logan Elementary and East Allegheny Junior-Senior High School.
  • The Board approved an agreement with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for logo redesign services.
  • An agreement with TCV/Devereux for behavioral health therapists for the 2024-25 school year was approved. These services will be paid via a PCCD grant. Additionally, the Board approved the service and data sharing agreements with the Pittsburgh Area Community Schools (PACS) organization, which will be paid via the SEEKS grant.
  • The board ratified the hire of Mr. Christopher Bucar as a secondary social studies teacher, retroactively effective to Aug. 20, 2024. The Board also ratified the hire of fourth grade teacher Ms. Brooke Egenlauf. Additionally, a host of assistant athletic coaches were hired.
