East Allegheny School District is committed to providing specially designed instruction and support services to eligible students with disabilities, as required by federal and state regulations.
These services are individualized, provided at no cost to families, and are designed to help students succeed both academically and socially.
Program Overview
Eligibility
Eligibility for special education services is available to students with disabilities, including learning, physical, intellectual, or emotional impairments, who meet state and federal eligibility requirements.
IEP
An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed for each eligible student and outlines the student's unique educational goals, specially designed instruction, accommodations, and related services.
LRE
The Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) means that, whenever appropriate, students receive instruction alongside their non-disabled peers while receiving the supports and services they need to be successful.
Continuum of Services
A continuum of special education services is available to meet each student's individual needs, ranging from support within the general education classroom to more specialized instructional settings.
Related Services
Related services may be provided when needed to support a student's educational program and can include services such as speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and other specialized supports.
Parental Involvement
Parental involvement is an essential part of the special education process. Families are valued partners and are involved in decisions regarding evaluation, educational planning, services, and their child's Individualized Education Program (IEP).

It details current programs, staffing, services, facilities, professional development, and strategies for inclusion, behavioral support, and transition planning. The plan ensures compliance with federal and state regulations while focusing on expanding capacity and improving outcomes for all learners.
