Addison’s Story: Stepping Out of Comfort Zones and Into Leadership Roles

Photo of Addison in front of a treeAddison Bernhardy is a dynamic and driven student who exemplifies the power of balancing academics, extracurriculars, and leadership. Addison’s involvement at school extends far beyond the classroom, as she is a cheerleader, a member of the Junior Class Cabinet, and both a student producer and dance captain in her school’s musicals.

Balancing her busy schedule requires discipline and time management. "I use any free time I have during the school day, evenings, and weekends to stay on top of schoolwork and activities," Addison explains. This time management ensures she remains committed to both her academic responsibilities and her leadership roles.

Addison works hard to make a positive impact on her school community by inspiring her peers to step outside their comfort zones. “Trying out for cheer and auditioning for musicals were the best decisions I made,” she says, emphasizing the importance of pushing oneself to try new things.

Her leadership skills are especially evident in her role as dance captain. "During musical rehearsals, many people struggle with choreography," Addison shares. With her dance experience, she offers to help her peers during lunch and free periods, ensuring everyone feels confident and supported.

When asked about the importance of leadership, Addison explains, “It tests your own skills and your ability to lead—not just for others, but for yourself.” This self-reflection speaks to her growth and commitment to developing as a leader.

Looking toward the future, Addison plans to attend Pitt-Greensburg to start the Pre-Occupational Therapy program, with the goal of later transferring to Pitt’s main campus. “I want to specialize in Occupational Therapy for pediatrics,” she says. Her aspirations show her dedication not only to helping her peers now but also to making a lasting impact on the lives of children in her future career.

Addison’s advice to fellow students is simple: "Step out of your comfort zone and go for it."
