March School Board Recap

The March East Allegheny School District board meeting was held on the 10th. A live stream of the meeting is archived here

High School Musical students announced performance dates and presented invitations.

Nutrition Update:

  • The Nutrition Group shared several initiatives to encourage students to try more fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. They are focusing on promoting healthier eating habits among students.
  • The team also proposed bringing back a boneless wing station for high school students and introducing a donut station for elementary students, aiming to offer more appealing and varied options in the cafeteria.
  • Financially, the department reported a slight budget shortfall for Breakfast and Lunch meals, but a la carte sales (including special functions and event sales) are performing well and are above projections. This has helped balance the budget.
  • Reimbursements from the government for meals have improved, as the government increased the reimbursements available, which was not initially anticipated when the budget was planned. This increase has been crucial for the department in meeting its financial projections.

Student Reports:

  • JR/SR High School: Students highlighted upcoming events, including the High School Musical, prom, National Honor Society induction, and STEM night.
  • Elementary: The representative shared information about Read Across America and the 4th-grade whiffle ball game with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also noted that it is Women’s History Month, with activities celebrating women’s achievements planned.

  • Paws Nights are scheduled for March 12 and April 12 to register and welcome incoming Kindergarten students.
  • Amara Perez inducted into the Ford CTC National Tech Honor Society.
  • Adien Cosby, Ethan Ace, and Quincy Palmer presented their projects at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science fair and placed 1st or 2nd in their respective categories.
