Among them were Assistant Superintendent Dr. Alexander Novickoff, high school principal R.J. Long, assistant principal Brian Ferek and Logan Elementary assistant principal George Little.

The group, along with Superintendent Joe DiLucente, has begun working together in preparation for the new school year.

“Our administrative team has worked a lot together in the last few weeks,” DiLucente said. “We have plans that we’re very excited about. We’ve been setting core values for East Allegheny to benefit students and give them the tools they need for success.”

During his superintendent’s address, DiLucente also highlighted the five-year contract agreement between the East Allegheny Educators Association and the district. The contract includes stepped raises in each year.

“It was a lot of work to get there. … I’m proud to be a part of that and to work with all of (the teachers). I look forward to that as we grow this district and everyone in it.”

In other business, the Board:

  • Approved a proposal from Logan Elementary principal Cara McKenna to apply for a 501c3 (nonprofit) to create the Logan Elementary Wildcat Foundation (LEWF). The LEWF’s mission is “to ensure the highest level of educational opportunities by supporting students, faculty, and staff.” The license will enable the ability to raise private funds to enhance and expand educational opportunities, to help beautify school grounds, to support PBIS initiatives, and more.
  • Hired Emilia Matucci as the high school PBIS coach.
  • Hired Jennifer Smith as the Grades 7-12 EA Academy math teacher and Richard Yeager as the Grades 7-12 EA Academy social studies/English language arts teacher.
  • Approved the 2024-25 student handbooks for both Logan Elementary and East Allegheny Junior-Senior High School. Those can be found here and here.
  • Also approved the faculty handbooks for the 2024-25 school year.
  • Approved training series in extra math block strategies, reading specialist network, and teaching and learning mathematics with visual models.
  • Approved a field trip for grades 10-12 AP environmental science and other interested students to visit the Consortium for Public Education for the Sustainability Design program. There will be one date in the fall and one in the spring, both to be determined. Students will learn about sustainable practices, learn about career connections, and develop 21st Century skills that will prepare them for the future. Cost to the district is transportation.

The East Allegheny School Board of Directors will next meet Tuesday, Sept. 3.
