A New Wildcat at Logan: Meet Assistant Principal Kaitlyn Grzywinski

A new Wildcat joined Logan Elementary this year, and she wants every child who walks through its doors to feel known, supported and capable of success.

As Logan’s new assistant principal, Ms. Kaitlyn Grzywinski works alongside Principal Dr. Michael Toole and Assistant Principal Mr. George Little to support students, staff and families. Her role can be seen in every part of the school day, from helping students work through challenges to supporting teachers and strengthening the systems that help children learn.

For Ms. Grzywinski, it all begins with building relationships.

“I want students to see me as someone who is approachable, who cares about them, and who believes in them, even when they might not believe in themselves yet.”

That belief fits closely with East Allegheny’s vision for schools where students feel connected and excited to learn. Ms. Grzywinski wants children to know they can come to her on their best days, their hardest days and all the ordinary days in between.

“A great elementary school experience is one where a child feels known, safe, loved, challenged, and successful while having some fun along the way!”

She also believes children need room to make mistakes and discover their strengths. While schools have important work to do, Ms. Grzywinski wants students to be excited when they arrive each morning.

“One lesson I hope students carry with them is that you don't have to be the best at something to give it your best effort.”

Her leadership style reflects many of those same ideas. She describes herself as relationship-centered, supportive and direct when needed. She wants staff to know she is in their corner while maintaining high expectations for herself and those around her.

Ms. Grzywinski brings experience from several areas of education to Logan. She began her career as a mathematics teacher for students in middle and high school before becoming a curriculum specialist. Finally before moving into administrative leadership, Ms. Grzywinski supported classroom teachers through a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support facilitator.

“My path probably looks a little less like a straight line and more like a scenic route! Every position I’ve had has taught me something different about students, teachers, families, and leadership.”

Each role gave her a different view of what students and educators need to succeed. It also strengthened her belief that great schools are built by people who communicate well and care about children.

Outside of school, Ms. Grzywinski enjoys camping, reading, being outdoors and spending time with her family, including their dog Hagrid (who really just loves the snacks)!

As she continues her first year at Logan, Ms. Grzywinski is looking forward to learning from the school community, building relationships and helping students create plenty of good memories along the way.
