Dear Parents, Students, and Friends, We have reached the end of the first marking period, and have undertaken many events. The fall saw many successful events, including a well attended Homecoming Celebration, a competitive Marching Band season, PSAT and SAT tests being given, and the National Honor Society participating in the Haunted Acres Haunted House. We recognized the achievements of Polish-Americans everywhere during the month of October. Our students have taken the first round of the 4 sight tests, which evaluate and predict student competencies in math and reading. These tests are accurate predictors of how students will perform on the PSSA tests being given in the spring. The data from these tests allow our teachers to modify and adjust their instruction to better prepare students to take the PSSA test and to better master the competencies being tested. The teachers meet in grade level teams to review the data and then look to see where in their courses they can align them to the Pennsylvania academic standards. We are making a concerted effort to utilize the data we receive from these tests to better meet the needs of the students. As we move into November, we will have the second round of 4 sight tests for the 11th grade students. Teachers may then meet with individual students to go over their scores with them and to talk about their own performance on the tests. Also, in November, we will hold parent conferences. Evening parent conferences will be held on November 6th, while day long conferences will be held on November 7th. The month will also see the first orchestra concert for the year on November 24th, just in time to be a prelude to the Thanksgiving Holiday. November also marks the beginning of the Winter Sports Season, with basketball and swimming practices being held for boys and girls. While it is still Autumn our music department has begun planning for this Spring’s musical. With new Choral teacher Amanda Miller taking over the helm, and working with Mrs. King, the students have been practicing to audition for the seminal spring event. This year’s musical will be Footloose, a popular favorite with young and old. I encourage you to attend the upcoming November athletic and music events, and look forward to seeing many of you here at school. As always, I appreciate your support and encouragement as we continue to work together to educate our children. Sincerely, Mr. Peiffer |
